Card sort is a technique which ranks alternatives on intuition by shuffling them step by step. There are different variations possible, by assigning values to a collection of alternatives or just by shuffling them on intuition.

This technique shuffles ideas one by one to select a certain set. Next to ideas, you can also use this technique for shuffling and selecting objectives.

Executing the Method

  • Spread Alternatives

Spread out all alternatives on the table or in another good overview.

  • Review Alternatives

Review each idea shortly, and make an order from best to worst, comparing them one by one.

  • Remove Worst Alternatives

Remove the worst half of ideas. Review the remaining half and order them again from best to worst.

  • Repeat

Repeat the last step until a few numbers of ideas is left or you feel further iteration is pointless.
